Defunct Games reviews Adventures of Bertram Fiddle – Ep. 1: A Deadly Business by Rumpus, available now on Nintendo Switch.

Although a bit on the simple side, I was completely won over by the quirky story and funny writing. Adventures of Bertram Fiddle: Episode 1 – A Deadly Business sets up a compelling mystery with a cast of colorful characters and a twist around every corner. I loved hanging out with Bert, which is all the more reason why it was disappointing when the all-too-brief adventure concluded with a cliffhanger. I hope the wait isn’t long, because I’m excited to see where Bertram’s adventure takes him next.

I played the first Bertram Fiddle recently on mobile, because it was free.
I agree with your assessment. It’s easy, short, but delightful, with very likable protagonists, graphics and voice acting.
But I wished for more interactivity with your companion. Most of the time he is totally useless and there is no point in even trying, because the responses are always the same few. (“if I could, I would” etc.) I love it when adventures trigger unique and fitting responses for each and every single possible combination, just for the giggles.

I choose Elizabeth from BioShock Infinite and Ellie from The Last of Us, I know they are mostly considered as support characters but they are important in their own right and get pushed aside.

Well Yoshi gets punched in the head and pretty much exists just to give mario rides everywhere.
